Sangeeta Bhagawati Profile image

Sangeeta Bhagawati is an Indian printmaker currently based in London. She makes linoprints and uses chinecollé in her printmaking technique. Her work is influenced by her experience of growing up as a woman in South Asia. The prints made by Sangeeta explore the relation of the body with pleasure, loss, power and growth. The images in her prints, of bodies together as well as in isolation, suggests the narrative potential of Sangeeta’s printmaking work. These original prints dwell on the possibility of multiple interpretations by the viewer. The goal of her work is to evoke a range of emotions in the viewer, by these carvings and mark makings on the body.

Sangeeta's latest series of work have grown out of her own introspection of growth and growing/ looking inward in solitude. These prints, made in lockdown, have involved the idea of growth and change in many ways. In these prints, the idea of change and evolving takes the form of a very botanical depiction of imagining the 'self' growing with nature: a manifestation of having very little access to the outdoors.
